My 9 month old son is a fast crawler. He gets into everything. When we take him to visit my husband's parents, I am under so much stress. Their house is completely un-childproofed. There are dangers everywhere and what isn't dangerous is valuable and breakable. I spend the entire visit running after Ryan and picking up things. You would think that my in-laws would see how hard it is for me but they just sit there and say things like, "make sure he doesn't go near the computer table" and so on. I don't even want to go to their house anymore but I can't get out of it. They expect us every Sunday afternoon. What should I do?

Did you ask them to make the house more child-proof? Maybe they would try to do it if you explained that it's hard on you. If you don't complain, people don't always understand your situation. But if you do speak up, they often turn out to be more helpful than you thought they would be. ADD COMMENT

Here's a quick cure that I used when I had a similar situation. I told my husband that I had a headache and couldn't go for the visit to his folks - I did it three weekends in a row. By the time I got back to visiting, the house was magically child-proofed! I guess no one wanted to chase after Megan. I'm sure they never realized what it was like before they had to do it themselves. ADD COMMENT

I did something similar but different. I told my husband I'm not going to his parents' house until HE spoke to them about making it safe for our toddler. I didn't want to get on the bad side of my in-laws. He's their son so he can say whatever he wants and they'll listen to him. He wouldn't go without me (he doesn't like to look after our kids on his own) so I got onto it pretty fast. They got the message and now it's much easier for me to to enjoy my visits and take care of my kids. ADD COMMENT

If his parents actually expect you to show up every Sunday, then they should definitely make their home childproof. If they only had you over once a year, then they could leave it whatever way they wanted. I can't believe how inconsiderate some people can be. ADD COMMENT
