People put their 2 year olds to bed whenever it suits them. Some people with only one baby let the baby stay up with them until late at night and then the whole family goes to bed at the same time (sometimes in a family bed). Others, put the toddler to bed around 6:30 or 7:30 p.m. Usually the child will wake around the same time in the morning, 12 hours later - but of course there are individual differences. Some kids need more sleep than others. In a busy household with lots of kids, it can happen that the 5 and 7 year old go to bed before the 2 year old. There are no hard and fast rules about this. Do what works for you. When your baby is going to nursery school and has to wake up at the same time every morning, the bedtime becomes more important. Then the child has to go to sleep at the time that will give her the right number of hours of sleep in order to function well the next day. If she has to get up at 7 in the morning to get ready for school, then she may have to go to bed around 7 at night. However, if she needs less sleep, then her bedtime could be significantly later. It's so individual. Sarah Chana

My 3 kids have been so different from each other. They're all over 5 now but when they were 2, the eldest went to sleep with me around 10 p.m., the middle one went to sleep around 9 and the youngest one is out like a light by 7 most nights.
