A visit to a child therapist may help rule this possibility out. Some gentle questioning on your part may also provide some insight. Often children lose control of themselves and their bodily functions when they have lost control of something in their lives. However, another possibility is that your son is having a reaction to food - a sensitivity perhaps, that is affecting his mood and his digestive system.
