My kid does the same thing. My doctor said to put him on meds but I thought that was way over the top. I took him to an art therapist and he got a little better. He still has tantrums in public but less often now. He's been in therapy for two months and the therapist said that it could take 6 months or more before they're all gone. I'm counting the days!

I think a lot of kids still pull tantrums at 7 years old. I see some pretty bad behavior in my friends' kids of that age. So don't feel so alone.

Try Bach remedies! I gave my tantrum-kid "vine" and "cherry plum" and he stopped having tantrums overnight.

I also recommend the Bach Flowers. You need to know what triggers his tantrums in order to give him the best remedy. Either look up the remedies at www.bachcentre.com or call a Bach Flower Practitioner. Also, I suggest a behavioral program. For instance, you can tell him that from now on, when he starts to pull a tantrum, you will count quietly: one (pause a few seconds), two (pause a few seconds), etc. The pause is to give him a chance to think about what is happening because each number represent a level of punishment. "One" would be a mild negative consequence. "Two would be a stronger one. "Three" would be stronger yet. And so on. After a few experiences with consequences (see Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice to select types of consequences), his brain will work harder to turn off a tantrum quickly. Sarah Chana

Hi Margaret,
That is great in using Bach therapy. How much did you use and how do you know how much to use for the best results? How much do you give your child? How often? Where can you learn this? Thanks Lillian
