my nephew just turned one and has a real bad habit of pinching and scratching. if you are lying down he loves to come up and pinch and scratch your face. i think he might associate it with tickling, but his little claws are very sharp (even though we keep them trimmed) and his little fingers can pinch very hard. we have tried a variety of reactions to tell him this is not okay: saying 'ouch' with a sad face, saying 'no', saying 'gentle, please', and even not reacting at all (which is very hard, because it hurts!) but nothing seems to work. if we say 'no' or 'ouch' he starts to cry, and i don't think he's making the connection. how do we stop this behavior before it becomes a habit? any creative discipline/redirection ideas? i don't want him to do this to other children.
