Some kids tantrum until they're 40! In other words, some people never seem to outgrow their tantrums. These people may have inborn tendencies that make them more prone to "lose it" under certain circumstances; it's as if they're more vulnerable to the chemical adrenalin (they react more strongly than other people do to the stress chemistry in the body). In any event, anyone over the age of 3 who is throwing a fit needs help. Sometimes Bach Flower Therapy can help correct the biological tendency to explode. The flower "vine" for instance will help some, while "impatiens" or "cherry plum" may help others. You can look up the criteria for choosing a remedy at www.bachcentre.com. Sometimes psychotropic medicine will be useful. Parents can certainly help their explosive children by using behavioral techniques such as rewards and negative consequences. You'll find lots of ideas in "Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice." . Sometimes professional therapy will also be useful. The same goes for an explosive adult - remedies, medicine, psychotherapy, anger management training and other behavioral strategies can all help make tantrums a thing of the past. Sarah Chana

I found that Bach Flowers were the only thing that helped my 12 year old stop having tantrums. They're easy to give and they really work miracles!

My mom tells the story that I threw fits till I got married. But my husband would tell you that he never saw me get angry. So hang in there - maybe she'll grow out of it.

Just punish her every time she throws a fit. If you find "the right priced ticket" she'll soon learn to control herself better.
