Children who are prone to ear infections and colds sometimes do better with a minimal amount of dairy products. Your husband is right to suggest that there are some problems with dairy, but unfortunately, much of the food we consume today is similarly problematic. Nonetheless, I don't recommend that parents cut out dairy entirely unless there is a true dairy allergy. If your husband is concerned, try switching to organic dairy products or those made with goat milk. You may also want to discuss some kind of compromise where your children are allowed dairy but not in excessive quantities. Finally, if you do find that your children exhibit chronic runny noses or ear infections, try eliminating dairy for a few weeks and see if there is any improvement.
