The problem with Coke and other soft drinks is both their lack of nutrients and their high sugar content. Soft drinks are made with corn syrup, a particularly problematic sugar source. Too much sugar in the diet leads to weight issues, dental cavities, and increased problems with insulin resistance. Furthermore, children who learn to drink sugary beverages are less likely to enjoy the taste of water, which of course, is the ideal thing to drink. Soft drinks are best left as occasional treats. They have no redeeming features and fall into the same category as candies and other junk food. Both children and adults are better off drinking water, herbal teas and milk and juice in moderation.
