| If you haven't yet given your daughter a complete lesson on human sexuality, you might do this now. Using words that an 11 year old can feel comfortable with and understand, explain the relationship progression from friendship to affection to adult intimacy to sexual diseases to pregnancy. You can explain that kissing is a form of physical affection - the beginning of a truly sexual encounter. Sexual activity is for older people and that it's nice to remain a kid as long as she can because it is less complicated and more fun. Soon enough she'll be involved in the world of sexuality but only people who are old enough to understand sexuality and accept adult responsibility for it should be engaging in it. Adult responsibility means being able to understand the other person's feelings (what the boy is experiencing emotionally and physically), taking steps to prevent sexual disease and taking steps to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Until she feels she can handle all this, she shouldn't become sexually active. Sarah Chana
