| Even little babies know what they like and don't like. Your little guy just doesn't like his crib - which isn't that unusual. Tiny people sometimes feel overwhelmed or unprotected in the big open space of crib. Many prefer to be more cuddled within smaller spaces such as a car seat or infant chair. Your bed may be appealing because you are there with your body warmth and human reassurance. Your baby is telling you that he needs more swaddling right now. There is nothing wrong with giving it to him! He may enjoy his crib more when he gets a little bigger. Your idea that the crib is where babies sleep is only partially true. It is where some babies sleep but not all. Some babies never sleep in a crib at all but sleep in their parent's bed instead. Some graduate from a cradle (a smaller, cozier space) to a mattress on the floor in the parent's room. Sleeping arrangements for newborns are often temporary - as the baby grows his needs and the needs of the parents may change, causing a change of sleeping arrangement. Being flexible and following your baby's cues are great parenting skills to employ in this and every parenting dilemma.
