| You can try the CLeaR Method - Comment, Label, Reward (see Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice for a full explanation of this method). Try handing your daughter her plate as she leaves the table, then say, "Thanks for taking your plate Kaitlin (Comment); that's very HELPFUL Sweetheart (Label); by the way, would you like some of the gum I picked up this afternoon? (Reward). Using this method, you can draw attention to all those times that Kaitlin spontaneously moves something into the right place and those times that you help her get started on that activity. The positive attention is very reinforcing and you should soon find that she starts to put some of her things away in their right places. Right now, you are using an aversive educational tool - criticizing and correcting her. Criticism harm your parent-child relationship AND it rarely produces a positive result. Try the CLeaR Method for awhile and see how that goes. Sarah Chana
