| Not only is your strategy a good one for an adopted baby, it is a good one for a natural born baby as well. Research shows that consistent, immediate response to the baby in the first year of life is linked to less crying at the end of the first year of life and more stability throughout life. If your baby will be happier and calmer because of your quick response, then definitely continue to offer it. The concept of spoiling doesn't apply to babies! Once the child understand language you can begin to use communication to ask the child to wait a bit. By the 2nd year of life, it is no longer urgent to ALWAYS respond within seconds. Your good track record will help the toddler be able to tolerate a short wait. Sarah Chana
