| Newborns do this sort of thing - it's either one end or the other or both sometimes! They can be messy little guys! Spitting up occurs sometimes because the mom's milk is very rich and the baby can't quite handle it yet. It also occurs because the baby eats too much at one sitting - although this doesn't sound like the reason in your case. There may be individual reasons why it happens as well - the baby's digestive system is not yet working up to speed. All of these problems clear up as the infant gets bigger so the spitting up problem will disappear in time. Till then, wear washable clothes, carry lots of those little shoulder blankets and be prepared to do frequent laundry. And be patient. It will end. Sarah Chana

| i had this problem with both my kids. one thing i read which was very helpful is that som moms have an over production of milk causing a very fast flow that can lead to baby spitting up more. one way to deal with this is to express some milk before nursing. another tip that really helped me is to nurse on only one side at a time and to keep on nursing on that side until it's been emptied. also i found that my babies did better with shorter nursing sessions and with being kept upright after eating.
