| Many parents complain about having to get up many times a night to return a pacifier to their baby. Some say that the best thing is not to use a pacifier in the first place. You might keep that in mind for your next baby! However, for now, there are a couple of things you can do. Try using the pacifier less during the daytime. Try to get her to take her daytime naps without using the pacifier at all so she gets used to falling asleep without it. If she is sleeping with it day or night, remove it from her mouth gently right after she falls asleep so that she can get used to the feeling of sleeping without it. The same general approach can be used if you want to wean her off the breast at night as well. Night time is really the LAST time for all weaning activities - pacifier, breast or bottle. Do most of your work in the daytime - cutting down the number of breast feedings and shortening them. Don't use the breast to put her to sleep. However, your baby is quite young. You can start weaning her from the breast now if you want, but many moms want to nurse for a full year or even two. If nursing is going well in the daytime, you can just try refraining from nursing her in the middle of the night - but you'll have to work a lot harder for a short while. You can walk her, rock her, pat her and so on. She will put up a fuss but if you really want to do skip that night time feed, your daughter will catch on eventually. Sarah Chana
